Work statistics, referred to as "workstats" are a formulaic code of 14 characters that allows for the parsing of types of cataloging and processing statistics. Workstats are placed in 949 MARC fields (which places them in the item record upon export) in OCLC and recorded in the w field of the item record in Sierra (if workstat being recorded isn't an export from OCLC).
Construct workstats using the formula and codes below:
[unit] + [work type] + [initials]
[cop] + [copymono] + [xxx] = copcopymonoxxx
[acq] + [skymatch] + [xxx] = acqskymatchxxx
For microforms, physical computer files, physical audio materials and physical video materials, include a piece count. Using no spaces, insert a comma after the workstat string and the number of pieces (fiche, discs, etc.).
