Summary: The 049 MARC field contains a four-character code that identifies one location or collection within the MSU Libraries. The table below identifies MSUL collections and their associated OCLC local holdings codes to be used in OCLC and Sierra.
The 049 field is not officially part of the standard MARC 21 format. The default of EEMR is supplied automatically by Connexion when searching for copy or creating a new original record. Catalogers must update the 049 if the location of the item being cataloged is different from EEMR. The 049 field is not retained in the master record in OCLC. It is retained in exported records and exporting a record with the correct 049 code causes Sierra to automatically update the Sierra leader location information.
*These locations do not have a unique 4-letter cataloging code. Use EEMR and after export, change the bib and item record locations to the correct location.
