Summary: This page describes the procedure for what to do when receiving a book with an online access code.

  • Salem Press items:
    • Check the inside back cover for the access code.  Email a scan or picture of the code to Lisa Smith; include the PO number and title in the message.
  • RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry) Publishing items:
    • Remove the pink sheet which contains the electronic access instructions, write the PO number and title on it and give to Lisa Smith.

Exception - if the access code is in a book that is not published by Salem Press or RSC, we will discard or black out the code information.

  • The code is contained in an envelope or on a removable card in the book
    • Remove the code and discard it

  • The code cannot be removed from the book
    • Uncover the code if necessary (scratch off the coating covering the code)
    • Use a black marker to obliterate the revealed access code
    • Process or get into cataloging workflow.  Do not add a note indicating presence of the code in the cataloging record.
