Multivolume Records

Multivolume Records

Summary:

To be a multi-volume, each piece must share a title, although they may have different sub-titles. Sometimes there will be pieces that share a call number, but the volumes or parts have different titles. These are not considered multi-volumes and should be left with separate records.

What's a Multivolume and What's Not a Multivolume

Part 1 & 2 have different, distinct titles--NOT a multi volume:

Things like errata and change sheets should be treated as multi volumes on the record for the main title. Otherwise, patrons may never know that there has been a correction or change to the title they are using.

Sometimes parts may have different numbers and will be listed in separate 086 fields. This may look like a call number problem or change but is really a multi-volume.
