Supplementary materials

Summary: These procedures apply to the cataloging of supplementary print or nonprint materials that accompany a primary resource (example: a book about folk songs and an accompanying CD with example recordings).

Policies
  • A resource is considered supplementary if it cannot be intellectually independent of the primary piece.
  • Resources that reproduce the entire content of a resource in a different form are not considered supplementary.
  • If uncertain whether a piece is supplementary or not, consult Joshua Barton or Autumn Faulkner.
  • Printed supplementary materials will be kept with the main piece for all titles regardless of destination (includes all titles for Main and Branch locations).

  • Non-print supplementary materials for items going to Main will be separated from the main piece and housed separately.

  • Non-print supplementary materials for items going to branches will be sent to the branch with the piece.
