Summary: This procedure explains how to indicate that a new MSU item is already held by the Library of Michigan or MSU Law Library, and therefore can be added to an existing bibliographic record.

  • Add external note addcat? to order record, when attaching to a Library of Michigan or MSU Law Library bibliographic record
  • Receiving staff will route item to appropriate cataloging workflow

Policies
  • Bib records brought in by the Law Library or LoM are "owned" by them and should not be altered or overlaid.
  • Items new to MSUL sometimes need to be added to an existing Law or LoM record, instead of cataloged normally.
  • Addcats are always identified by Acquisitions staff; this makes sure they are directed to the right cataloging workflow.
