Content to add to the master record
These are good to add to the master record in OCLC:
bounding box coordinates where lacking and when appropriate, in 034 and 255 fields
- Note: add ǂ2 bound at the end of the 034 when Klokan Bounding Box tool is used
- Appropriate LCGFT headings in 655_7 fields (in straightforward cases)
- F11 controls these individually
- Spelling/typo corrections.
After making 034/255/655/spelling edits
- Alt+F11 to Replace record and update holdings
- Alternatively: Alt+F10 to replace record, F8 to update holdings.
- Alternatively: Alt+F10 to replace record, F8 to update holdings.
Local edits
Remaining changes to the record are specific to our catalog only. The OCLC master record shouldn’t be replaced from this point forward.
Additions:
Add 090 field for LC call number (any existing 090 field can be deleted/replaced).
Add 099 field for AGS number
- Add 949 field with item creation codes and work stats
- Removals: (Alt+Delete to delete fields):
- 530 fields referring to digital versions of a paper map
- Example language in a 530 field: “Available also through the Library of Congress Web site as a raster image.”
- 856 fields containing URLs pointing to digital versions of a paper map
- 655s IF they contain “FAST” terms that duplicate 655s containing LCGFTs
- Example: If a record contains both:
- 655_7 Maps. ǂ2 lcgft
- 655_7 Maps. ǂ2 fast ǂ0 (OCoLC)fst01423704
- Delete the field containing the FAST heading.
- (Non-duplicative 655 FAST fields, and FAST terms in fields 650/651/etc, may be left alone.)
- Example: If a record contains both:
- 530 fields referring to digital versions of a paper map
Final steps and export
- Spellcheck (F7)
- Export to Sierra (F5)
