About the 049
- Contains a 4-character code that identifies one location or collection within the MSU Libraries
- Not officially part of the standard MARC 21 format
- Default of EEMR is supplied automatically by Connexion when searching for copy or creating a new original record
- Catalogers must
- change the code in the 049 if the location of the item being cataloged is different from EEMR
- Not retained in the master record in OCLC
- Retained in exported record in Sierra
- Upon export, automatically updates the bib record location code
- Example: Exporting from OCLC with 049 of EEMB results in bib location code of bu in Sierra record
