Policies
MSUL uses the BIBCO Standard Record as its guide for cataloging policy and practice whenever possible, keeping local exceptions to a minimum.
- In general, copy cataloging is the province of LA IIIs while original cataloging is handled by LA IVs–though both levels do some of each.
- LA IIs in Acquisitions also handle some basic copy cataloging for shelf-ready materials.
- Usually, materials enter formal cataloging workstreams via Acquisitions, whether the items are purchased or gifted. However, some special groups of materials may be handled on an individual basis; bibliographers should consult Joshua Barton or Autumn Faulkner.
Make a reasonable effort to include non-Roman characters in catalog records where appropriate.
