MSUL uses the BIBCO Standard Record as its guide for cataloging policy and practice whenever possible, keeping local exceptions to a minimum.
In general, copy cataloging is the province of LA IIIs while original cataloging is handled by LA IVs–though both levels do some of each.
LA IIs in Acquisitions also handle some basic copy cataloging for shelf-ready materials.
Usually, materials enter formal cataloging workstreams via Acquisitions, whether the items are purchased or gifted. However, some special groups of materials may be handled on an individual basis; bibliographers should consult Joshua Barton or Autumn Faulkner.
Make a reasonable effort to include non-Roman characters in catalog records where appropriate.
