Summary: This procedure outlines the set-up of FOLIO holdings and item records for new standing order serials where "Recent unbound issues arranged by title" needs a note about recent issues needs to be displayed to the public in EDS/VuFind. Currently

  • Note: when setting up a new serial title, be sure to add a holding record for the bound location with no attached item records. This will give Binding a place to attach items once the first run is bound and also allow for call number searching at the holdings level to bring up the record. 

Tip

To search by call number in FOLIO, you MUST switch to searching at the holdings level. For these unbound issue titles, the LC call number is recorded on the holdings level.

  • Retains latest edition.
  • Recent unbound issues held in Main Stacks.
  • Latest edition in MSU REFERENCE.
  • Latest edition in MSU CLOSED REFERENCE.
  • Retain older editions in Remote Storage.
  • Later issues held in Main stacks.

Be sure not to use the "Holdings statement" field for notes.

Do not include a specific location in this text string (ex: BASEMENT 1E).

Open holdings statement (if standing order)
Under holdings notes add note type of "external note' = Recent unbound issues arranged by title
