1981 | Started first Yankee Book Peddler (YBP) approval plan |
1983 | Implemented the Innovative Interfaces (III) Acquisitions system, Innovacq. Colleen Hyslop negotiated. Monographs implemented first. |
1983 | Installed an interface between CLSI (circulation system and defacto online catalog) and Innovacq, providing order information for patrons online for the first time. |
1984 | Serials module added to the Innovacq system. |
1984 | Expanded domestic approvals with a Science Plan with YBP. Removed medicine in 1995 and changed to all slips in 2005. Too expensive for approval. |
1987 | Expanded domestic approvals with a Social Science/Humanities Plan with YBP. |
1989 | Installed NOTIS as public catalog. |
1994 | First library to implement OCLC Promptcat with YBP. |
1998 | Moved from NOTIS library system to III’s Millennium system for both the catalog and back end. |
2001 | Merged catalogs with The Detroit College of Law at MSU. |
2002 | Implemented Serials Solutions (vendor) for e-journal content. |
2004 | III XML Server installed |
January 2004 | Transitioned from OCLC Passport (command line search interface which charged per retrieval) to OCLC CatME (allowed working offline and expanded search options) |
Summer 2004 | Implemented Metafind Federated Search and WebBridge openURL link resolver. |
Library of Michigan and Law Library catalogs merged with MSUL catalog. | |
2008 | MSUL Dubai branch opened; Dubai collection added to catalog |
ERIC records were loaded | |
Served as beta partner to develop ContentPro, an Innovative federated search too | |
2009 | Vision Task Force report. |
July 2009 | New public catalog interface launched. |
August 18, 2009 | Implemented SkyRiver bibliographic utility; concluded overlapping use of OCLC Connexion two months later. |
April 6, 2010 | Began loading HathiTrust records to the catalog |
January 2011 | Started transmitting requests to have checks cut through the Enterprise Business System (EBS) using software created by Bill Wheeler to translate the output from III Millennium to a format acceptable to EBS. |
April 14, 2011 | W106 offices torn down; walls painted and new furniture installed for Acquisitions. |
August 2011 | AirPac (mobile version of the online catalog) installed. |
July 2012 | Upgraded from Innovative Millennium ILS to Sierra. |
Summer 2012 | Google digitization project began. |
March 2013 | Implemented RDA (new cataloging standard) for all original cataloging. |
AACR2 records still accepted for copy. | |
February 2014 | Technical Services consolidated into W106 and W128 with other offices. |
January 10, 2014 | The last HathiTrust record was loaded into the catalog. Total loaded was 1,547,184 bibliographic records. |
August 2014 | ProQuest Summon discovery layer (SearchPlus) implemented . |
October 2014 | Swets Information Service (subscription management vendor) bankruptcy; lost prepay funds as a result. |
December 2014 | Wiley Publishers forgave nearly $800,000 in subscription costs for 2015 as a result of Swets bankruptcy. |
March 2015 | Rovi Collection arrived. |
May 2015 | Decommissioned Encore server. |
June 2015 | Switched from SkyRiver bibliographic utility back to OCLC Connexion. |
July 2015 | Began Rovi Media Collection metadata creation process. |
Summer-Winter 2015 | Rovi records loaded into catalog. |
January - April 2016 | Beta tested a YBP-III Acquisitions API (ultimately not purchased). |
May 2016 | Began automated authority control implementation with Backstage Library Works. |
June 2017 | MSU Libraries Visioning Task Force Report |
2018 | Reindexing project. The Genre form index was created as well as adding a number of MARC fields to the Keyword index. |
March 2020 | Sent most of the TS staff to work at home during the COVID-19 pandemic |
March 13, 2020 | EBSCO demo of FOLIO. This occurred hybrid with a few people in the room and others watching from home due to COVID-19. |
October 9, 2020 | Signed the contract with EBSCO to implement FOLIO. Two Tech Services task forces are formed to migrate data: Acquisitions and Cataloging & Metadata. |
July 2021 | GO LIVE date for FOLIO Acquisitions and the attendant Electronic Resources Management (ERM) and EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) applications. |
October 11, 2021 | Finished deleting all HathiTrust records out of the Sierra database. |
June 2022 | All bibliographic records sent to Backstage for authorities processing & conversion to UTF-8 |
30 June 2022 | Go Live date for FOLIO cataloging, circulation, and course reserves completing 18 months of active project work to migrate to FOLIO. |
