Post-cataloging processing

MSummary:

Main (mnmn)

  • Current processing & shelf-ready books for Main will continue to go on the CP or barcoding trucks.

All other print locations (examples Art, Business, Gull Lake, Music, Remote Storage, Turfgrass, etc.)

  • All other (non- Special Collections) print book locations (locations at AR, BU, GU, MU, RS, TF, etc.) go to the two labeled shelves in Catalog Maintenance. There is no need to sort by location or separate cataloging processing (CP) vs. shelf-ready on these shelves.
    • From here they’ll be sorted by stamped locations in the book

Cataloged books should be placed on a book truck for labeling as soon after cataloging as possible.  If books are held at a desk for a period of time before they go to labeling, the date system to retrieve material is thrown off and multiple trucks have to be reviewed to find requested titles.  The date the truck arrives for labeling provides information that the material on it was cataloged just preceding the day or the same day the book truck was brought to labeling.

Filling the labeling book truck

Book trucks do not have to be completely full before they come to labeling.

When books are placed on book trucks for labeling:

  • The top shelf of a book truck should have a single row of books. The top row is reserved for large books, which is why there are not double rows of books on the top shelf.  Books do not have to be destined for the Oversize collection to be placed on the top shelf of a book truck.
    • Following are examples of books to be placed on the top shelf of a book truck.
      • Tall hardbacks and paperbacks.
      • Wide books: any book that takes up more then half of the width of the shelf of a book truck should go on the top row.
  • The average size book does not take up more than half of the width of the shelf of a book truck, so these materials can be placed on both sides of the lower shelves of the trucks.
  • Place the average size hardbacks and paperbacks on the lower shelves of the book truck, even if the top shelf is empty.
  • When a book truck is almost full, fill in the top shelf open space with any size books.
  • Pack all three shelves on Shelf Ready book trucks. Only pack the top two shelves on Central Process (CP) book trucks.

Delivering the labeling book trucks to Catalog Maintenance

  • Book trucks coming to Catalog Maintenance for labeling are assigned a truck number and a date, which should be the day they arrive in Catalog Maintenance.  The truck number and date are recorded on the white (Shelf Ready) or blue (CP, Current Processing) Truck Workflow sheets. The date and truck number is then recorded on a 3 x 5 white card that is then taped onto the book truck.
  • The date the truck arrives for labeling provides information that the material on it was cataloged just preceding the day or the same day the book truck was brought to labeling.
