Routing of journal issues

Summary: Information about the retired practice of routing issues of journals to library staff.

This procedure is archived and no longer reviewed or updated. The information below is retained for historic value.

A journal issue may be routed to staff if:

  • The title is not destined for the Periodicals Reading Room vertical file.
    • Exceptions: If the vertical file received two copies, one will be routed. "Choice" will be routed even though it is a vertical file title.
  • The title does not need to be cataloged (added and bar coded upon receipt) after it arrives.
    • Routing is meant to accommodate current issues of journals, not annuals, etc.
  • The title is not destined for Special Collections.

Any title can be routed to Turfgrass for inclusion in their database, regardless of location.

Note: As of June 2018, some titles are still routed as part of historical routine, but in general this work is unsustainable in Sierra, and is being gradually phased out.
