Summary: A number of series are provided online by ScienceDirect. MSU has analyzed the print series and will analyze the online versions as well, beginning with the 2006 volumes. The series all follow the same pattern, so these cataloging instructions cover all of them. The list of series is at the end of the instructions.

Add 13-digit print ISBN at end. Follow book link from series page to see ISBN, or copy from OCLC or Sierra.

Fields to add or check in copy:

  • Fixed field Form = o   [It is acceptable for copy to use 's' ]
  • 006/007
  • 020: add |z in front of print ISBNs
  • 049: QEMP
  • Call no.: use MSU's print analytic call number with 'Online' at end.
  • 300 field: 1 online resource : |b illustrations
  • 336, 337, 338 content, media, and carrier types
  • 588: Description based on print version record. (Accept copy as is. Okay for copy to use a 500 note rather than a 588.)
  • 655 _0 Electronic books.
  • 776 08 |i Print version: |a [TITLE] |w (OCoLC)# (Accept copy as is.)
  • workstats code: copyemono$ or origemono$
  • Make sure 490 1_ and 830 _0 are correct (some copy lacks them or has the numbering incorrectly) Remove |x from 830 field.
  •  999 |e m
  • If using copy for a specific provider other than ScienceDirect (e.g., ebrary), delete all references to the provider.
  • If using copy with a 533 field, delete 533 and follow rules above.
