Restores

Summary: This procedure lays out how to restore items that have been withdrawn back into the collection, both physical processing and catalog record restoring.

Restores

A Restore is a withdrawn item added back to the collection.

  • Search the catalog to see if a title already exists.  It is possible that a suppressed record exists or you could add loc to an existing record.
  • If a record is not found in the library catalog, search OCLC for copy.
  • If title is not found in OCLC, turn over to Cataloging team for completion of cataloging.
  • Once the bib record is found, make any necessary edits to the bib record and attach an item record.
    • Add the OCLC number back into the bib record by either inserting an 001 or changing the existing 001 index tag from “y” to ”o”.
  • In the item record add the workstat code: catrestoresXXX (XXX = your initials)
  • Add our holdings back to the OCLC Connexions record.
  • Check OCLC for any other bibliographic updates that are needed in our cataloged record.

Always remember to apply the Processing quality control checklist (obsolete) procedures for finished processing.
